Mission Statement
Bonner Community Housing Agency supports and develops affordable housing as a foundation upon which individuals, families and neighborhoods can build vital communities in Bonner County through educating, partnering, funding and creating land trusts. Why This Agency Formed As is it true of several communities in Idaho, Bonner County, and in particular the greater Sandpoint area (which includes the cities of Ponderay, Kootenai and Dover), saw a dramatic spike from 2004 through 2007 in secondary home construction and speculative house construction in general. That spike produced of course a dramatic increase in land costs (and hence housing costs) and a construction boom which resulted in an equally dramatic decrease in the area’s un-employment rate, from our many decade’s long norm of 9+ percent to less than 4 percent. [Click now to read more....] What This Community Is Doing In 2006 the City of Sandpoint partnered with IHFA, Bonner County and local businesses to fund a Housing Needs Assessment conducted by BBC Research. That report provided the foundation for a county wide affordable housing initiative; it kick-started our efforts to ameliorate an extraordinary and increasing gap between household income and housing costs. The workshop will last about six hours and will be lead by Sandy Wood from Seattle, Washington.
